Russia has extended its ban on diesel and aviation kerosene exports, along with other fuel products, until 31 October 2026, the Russian Council of Ministers announced on its official website.
“The decision was taken to maintain stability in the domestic fuel market, particularly given elevated demand during the agricultural harvest season,” the government said in a statement.
Russia’s broader fuel export ban remains in force until 31 January 2027. Diesel producers had been subject to separate, more immediate restrictions that were due to expire today and have now been extended to the end of October.
Fuel shortages resulting from Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries have disrupted petrol and diesel supplies across the country, triggering price increases and lengthy queues at filling stations.
Prior to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Russia was one of the world’s largest diesel exporters, supplying global markets at scale.
In 2022, before Moscow banned the publication of data on Russian diesel exports, the country was producing approximately 85 million tonnes of diesel annually, of which roughly half was destined for export markets.
