Standard Bank, in partnership with Total Mozambique LNG and IdeaLab, has just promoted the first virtual edition of the “Ideate Bootcamp 2021”, aimed at Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This initiative is part of the promotion of the development of national industry, by strengthening local competitiveness.
The program aims, essentially, to support this segment of companies to validate their business models in order to ensure their sustainability and scalability in the market.
For this purpose, and taking into account the projects that are being developed in the area of oil and gas in the country, companies were invited to participate in the workshop on local content, promoted by the Mozambique LNG project, led by Total, and some clients of the
Standard Bank Business Center, as well as beneficiaries of initiatives of the Business Incubator of the bank.
In this edition, companies operating in the sectors of construction, mechanics and instrumentation, information technology systems, transport and handling, metallurgy and welding (including pipes, vessels, valves and other associated activities), H3SE (Environment, Safety, Hygiene and Health), general services (including catering and facilities management), corrosion services, inspection, coating and insulation, consulting, among others, were contemplated.
In this regard, the director of Investment Banking at Standard Bank, João Guirengane, stressed that, through this training, the bank intends to strengthen the link between SMEs and Total, so that they have access to the many opportunities that the multinational is creating in the country.
“We intend to be the bridge that will enable the connection between SMEs and Total, and by doing so, help create synergies that will add value to your business and to our country, regarding the access to quality products and services”, said João Guirengane.
As explained by the director of Investment Banking at Standard Bank, in this program, the participants were stimulated to rethink their businesses, so they can make them grow in a methodical, sustainable, innovative way, and above all, “successfully responding to the challenges imposed by the community, as well as by large companies operating in Mozambique”.
For his part, Total’s capacity building manager, Mozambique LNG project, Cyril Putz, noted that one of the purposes of the program is to create opportunities to increase the presence of Mozambican companies in the supply chain of goods and services to the project for the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, through vocational training, employment and contracts for the supply of goods and provision of services.
“In the medium and long term, the Mozambique LNG project will be instrumental in contributing to the diversification of economic activities in Mozambique, through the development of competent workforces for the construction and operation phases, training and capacity building of specialists to support these areas, as well as the generation of revenue that will contribute to the socio-economic development of the country,” stressed Cyril Putz.
On the occasion, IdeaLab representative Tatiana Pereira urged participants to focus on strengthening their businesses as a way to take advantage of existing opportunities in the market. “Create many synergies, because one of the ways to grow is by establishing partnerships.”
