Nyusi Announces the Restart of Classroom Classes

In a brief communication to the nation, in the context of the public calamity Isituation, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, began by announcing that the measures he announced last February 4 are being maintained in general, but with a major novelty: the return of classes in person at all levels of education.

Appealing, even so, to the prudence and caution of all Mozambicans, the Head of State points out, on a hopeful note, that “in a short time, we hope to overcome this pandemic”, and asks for “a single army so that we are not all defeated”, he said, appealing to the massive use of the mask which is still not verified in many parts of the country.

One year after the declaration of the global pandemic and a few days from the one-year anniversary of the first case in the country (March 22), Nyusi praised the efforts to successfully overcome the first wave, thanked the efforts of health professionals, stressed the role that the arrival of vaccines will play in containing the pandemic, and predicted that in the next statement, within 30 days, he hopes to bring “good news” to the country.

The announced measures go into effect at zero hours on March 7.

Maintaining the essentials of the measures communicated on February 4.
The obligation to wear masks in public spaces, shopping centers, and common areas is to be strengthened.
The resumption of classes in person is authorized in all levels of education throughout the country and the institutions must observe the measures of the health protocol in force.
The resumption of training for Moçambola teams is authorized, with the national soccer championship remaining suspended for the time being.
