A new cement production plant is under construction in Beluluane Industrial Park, Boane district, Maputo province.
The factory is owned by Royal Cement Industries and its production will be for export. The national director for Industry, Sidónio dos Santos, did not give details about the new unit, however, confirmed to “Notícias” that it is already under construction and that the initial projections point to the start of production this year.
Sidónio dos Santos reaffirmed the plan to inaugurate, within the next few days, the new cement plant in Matutuíne, also in Maputo province.
The latter, owned by Dugongo Cimentos, SA, budgeted at 330 million U.S. dollars, will contribute to the reduction of import costs of raw materials for domestic industry, thus contributing to lower cement prices for the final consumer.
For this purpose, the Matutuíne plant is prepared to ensure the supply of clinker to other cement units in the country. Projections point to a production capacity of 1.8 million tons per year, employing 500 people of which 400 Mozambicans.
Dugongo Cimentos, SA, will be the first of the 15 industrial units in the country to produce clinker locally in sufficient quantities for its operation and supply to other units in the sector.
Clinker is the main raw material for cement production.
Currently, most of the clinker used in factories in Mozambique is imported from various markets, especially from South Africa.
It is believed, therefore, that with its local supply, the country can also save foreign exchange.
