The 2021 edition of the Mozambique International Fair (FACIM), the country’s main sample of economic activities, will be held in a virtual format due to covid-19, from August 30 to September 5, the government announced.
“The fair will be done in a virtual way” or, “if the numbers indicate a significant reduction [of the impact of infections], there may be a mix,” with some face-to-face events, Council of Ministers spokesman Filimone Suazi said at the end of Tuesday’s meeting.
The event is now in its 56th edition, after the Mozambican authorities decided to cancel the event in 2020 as a way to try to prevent the spread of covid-19.
According to Suazi, there are successful experiences of holding virtual fairs in China and Rwanda.
“We want to follow this trend” that aims to “keep these trade fairs” in activity, adapting them to a new context.
Mozambique has a cumulative total of 665 deaths and 59,914 covid-19 cases, 71% of which have been recovered.
