Mozambique and Zambia will standardise their road freight rates with a view to creating a balance between the carriers of the two countries.
The decision was announced Wednesday at the end of a bilateral ministerial meeting in the city of Beira, Sofala province.
The measure aims to respond to complaints from cargo transporters, who point to various constraints stemming from the disparity of rates charged in the countries of the region and the slowness of customs clearance.
The holder of the Zambian Transport and Communications portfolio, Mutotwe Kafwaya, said he hoped that the meeting would mark the beginning of a new stage in the area of goods transport and logistics.
In his turn, the Mozambican Minister for Transport and Communications, Janfar Abdulai, said that several measures were underway to facilitate the circulation of goods, particularly in the Beira Corridor.
The meeting between the Mozambican and Zambian ministers of Transport and Communications was preceded by a visit to the port of Beira.
