Fishermen in the Angoche district of Nampula province will benefit from a series of incentives to improve their production and contribute to the economic development of this island region.
To that end, the local government is working to allocate motors, fishing nets and other equipment to boost fish production capacity, given the strategic importance of Angoche district in catching fish in the province for improving the communities’ diet.
The district administrator, Daniel Amade, considers that Angoche is the district with the most fish processing companies in Nampula province, a product that is exported to some countries in Europe and Asia.
Daniel Amade said that talking about Angoche fishing meant addressing the lives of the entire population of the district, because most of them are fishermen (if we assume that, fishing is not just those who go to sea to fish).
“Here in the district we are all involved in fishing, because while others go to the sea and bring the fish, on land, there are those who are in charge of processing, marketing, transport to reference markets such as the city of Nampula and others,” he said.
Locally, according to Amade, the district is organised into around five fish processing units for later commercialisation, an activity that directly or indirectly involves the entire population, so it is said that Angoche is a fishing district.
