EDM Restores Energy in Areas Affected by “Eloise”

The public company Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM), has already re-established electricity in most of the districts and localities that had suffered an interruption in the supply of electricity due to heavy rains and winds caused by cyclone “Eloise”.

In a press release, the EDM states, however, that work on the ground is still aimed at restoring power connections in the districts of Govuro, in the northern part of Inhambane; Muanza, Búzi, Chibabavae and Goonda administrative post, in Sofala; MachazeeMussurize, in Manica; and Chinde and Macuse, in Zambezia Province.

“It should be noted that the EDM teams will re-establish the electric current only when all safety conditions are met, taking care, above all, that the damage caused by the weather does not endanger human life. In fact, the energization of Búzi, in the province of Sofala, may take longer since that district still has vast flooded areas”, he stressed.

Also according to the source, the EDM recommends that all the populations living in the areas affected by the Eloise storm continue to observe prevention measures, avoiding proximity to electrical equipment and the entire electricity infrastructure.

“In this context, it is necessary to avoid being close to any electrical equipment or touching the cables carrying electric current or poles; as well as to control children not to play around with damaged structures; and to turn off the main switchboard and all household appliances such as television, glacier, cooker and others”, he stresses.

In order to remedy the situation, the EDM also reports that it has technical teams working interruptly in the affected areas.
