64,000 Jobs Created in the First Quarter of 2021

Mozambique registered, in the first quarter of this year, about 64 thousand new jobs in different sectors of activities, with highlight to the extractive industry, services, education and health.

The information was provided on Thursday by the Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, at the opening, in Maputo, of the High Level Meeting on Employment, a meeting whose main objective is to seek holistic and integrated solutions that ensure the generation of more employment opportunities in the country.  The meeting was organized by the Secretary of State for Youth and Employment.

In the occasion, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário congratulated the fact that the new jobs have been generated in a moment of adversity imposed by the covid-19 pandemic, terrorist actions in Cabo Delgado and armed attacks in the central zone.

In fact, in the face of adversity, the Government has taken a number of monetary, fiscal and non-fiscal measures with the objective of supporting micro, small and medium enterprises, taking into account the economic capacity of our country.

“Employment is one of the main pillars of our governmental action in the present five-year period. By electing employment as one of the priorities of our governmental action, we aim to create conditions for the generation of more jobs, including self-employment and income for Mozambicans, especially the youngest, thus contributing to the continuous improvement of the living conditions of the population,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, to achieve this goal, the Government is implementing the Employment Policy that clearly defines the path that must be followed to create more jobs and ensure the employability of Mozambicans.

“The materialization of the Employment Policy is done through Action Plans. It is in this scope that, today, we have just witnessed the launching of the Action Plan for the period 2021-2024”, stressed Carlos Agostinho do Rosário.

It is a plan that contains guidelines and actions regarding employability, stimulus to create more jobs, informal economy, entrepreneurship, green jobs, inclusion and decent work, as well as combating child labor, among others.
