According to the executive director of the organization, João Neves, the activity plan for 2026 was approved by all delegations. Between projects and programs, there are 75 actions planned for 2026.
The Scientific Council of the International Portuguese Language Institute (IILP) approved the activity plan for the coming year, which includes a list of 75 anchor actions and projects.
According to João Neves, the plan for 2026 received unanimous approval from all delegations. Some of these projects and programs have already started this year.
“This plan concludes Portugal’s management cycle at the helm of the IILP but lays the groundwork for the coming years,” João Neves said.
As part of the rotation among members of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), the executive management of the IILP (a CPLP body based in Praia, Cape Verde) is expected to be handed over to São Tomé and Príncipe next year.
Among the novelties, the list includes a Neologisms Observatory, designed to provide the Portuguese language with “a tool” to record its evolution, he explained.
There is also a plan to build a digital map of the Portuguese language, which will mark its presence worldwide with dominant indicators to classify it in the global “ranking” of languages.
Another IILP initiative, according to Lusa, involves publishing 10,000 books for the Authors’ Box, each containing works by nine Lusophone writers, to circulate through secondary schools in Portuguese-speaking Africa (including Equatorial Guinea, a CPLP member), as well as Timor-Leste and Macau, along with a reading guide for teachers.
“It is a project to mitigate the lack of knowledge about the voices of literature from other CPLP countries,” within the community itself, João Neves noted. He also hopes to expand the bibliographic fund that the IILP makes available to society, which started with 150 copies annually provided by Porto Editora.
