The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, stated this Monday that Angola is doing its part to ensure the implementation of the mobility agreement among Portuguese-speaking countries. Speaking on the sidelines of the 14th Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (AP-CPLP) in Maputo, Mozambique, the parliamentary leader lamented the existing “restrictions” on the movement of people and goods.
“Angola is doing its part, Angola is attentive. We are a country with 35 million inhabitants — after Brazil, we are the second most populous country in the CPLP space,” she said, as quoted by Lusa.
Carolina Cerqueira also praised the efforts made by CPLP member states to ensure the mobility of people and goods within the Lusophone space.

The outgoing presidency of the AP-CPLP, led by Equatorial Guinea, had earlier called for the implementation of the mobility agreement, acknowledging the current challenges.
The mobility agreement within the CPLP was signed on July 17, 2021, in Luanda by the heads of state and government of the community, but only a few countries have moved forward with its application.
Mozambique will take over the rotating presidency of the AP-CPLP during the 14th meeting being held at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Center in Maputo, succeeding Equatorial Guinea. The two-year mandate will be focused on peace and inclusion.
