Zambia and the United Kingdom have finalized five agreements regarding renewable energy, poverty alleviation, and strengthening capacity in revenue and customs.
The ceremony, which took place at the State House in Harare, was signed by the UK Minister for International Development and Women Equalities, Anneliese Dodds, on behalf of her government, while Zambia was represented by Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Ambrose Lufuma, Community Development Minister Doreen Mwamba, and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Dingani Banda. President Hakainde Hichilema was in attendance to witness the event.
Other agreements focus on improving green growth compact and access to climate finance, including creating a climate finance unit.
In a prior meeting with the visiting UK Minister, President Hichilema noted the enduring relationship between Zambia and the United Kingdom, saying that his government is prepared to collaborate closely with the UK Government to combat climate change, which has led to energy and food insecurity in various regions of the country.
Dodds acknowledged the Zambian government’s initiatives to revitalise the economy and said the UK is committed to partnering with Zambia to help establish a sustainable and resilient economy.
