French supermajor TotalEnergies has exercised an extension option for Bermuda-headquartered drilling contractor Northern Ocean’s (NOL’s) semi-submersible rig Deepsea Mira, which is currently operational offshore West Africa.
Northern Ocean earlier this week confirmed the development and said that “a subsidiary of TotalEnergies has exercised the previously announced option”.
“The firm term of this contract has, as a result, been extended by approximately 65 to 93 days,” the drilling contractor said.
This extension provides about “$27 million to $38 million of additional revenue backlog and will increase NOL’s firm backlog to approximately $515 million to $45 million”, it stated.
Arne Jacobsen, chief executive of Northern Ocean, said: “NOL is pleased with this extension because it extends our good relationship with TotalEnergies and also demonstrates the capabilities of the rig.
“The Deepsea Mira, with Odfjell Drilling’s services, is one of the most capable rigs for year-round operations in harsh weather conditions. In the last four months, the company has increased its contract backlog by about $500 million,” Jacobsen said.
The semisub rig managed by Odfjell Drilling is currently working offshore West Africa, on a multi-country contract with TotalEnergies.
Deepsea Mira is a 2018-built semisub that was constructed by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and is capable of drilling in water depths of up to 10,000 feet.
