Total has Already Invested US$ 1.1 Billion in Local Content

The Mozambique LNG Project, whose operating company is the French oil company Total, has already invested over one billion US dollars in local content, directly applied in 400 national companies, 190 of which owned by Mozambicans.

Of this amount, more than 250 million US dollars were invested directly in companies managed by Mozambicans, subcontracted for the supply of goods and services in the value chain of the oil and gas industry, as well as in training and capacity building of human resources and companies.

The information was disclosed recently, in Maputo, by the representative of Total’s contractors, Leonardo Nhavoto, in a virtual seminar held by the company to share business opportunities granted to Mozambican companies.

“To date, Total has already invested more than a billion dollars in national companies that provide goods and services to the Mozambique LNG project. That’s about 400 national companies. This investment has already created more than six thousand jobs, where 87 % of the workforce is Mozambican,” said Nhavoto.

At the seminar, Total through its contractors and CCS JV a consortium to supply goods and services for the installation of on-shore construction in Cabo Delgado, presented a prospective procurement plan, which opens an opportunity to explore several businesses for national companies in the oil and gas value chain.

“This is a plan designed to inform the local market about future opportunities for supplying goods and services for the onshore construction installation in Cabo Delgado,” said Yara Povoa of the CCS JV.

The plan integrates the scope of work, estimated value of the contracts, proposed start-up dates, quality standards required in the provision of goods and services, as well as the technical standards and brands that the Mozambique LNG project requires.

By offering these opportunities, Total makes room for a greater participation of national contractors and subcontractors in the supply chain of the oil and gas industry, fulfilling the draft programs to support Mozambican companies, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) seeking contracting opportunities.
