ExxonMobil Awards OneSubsea Subsea Production Contract For Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG

ExxonMobil has awarded OneSubsea — the joint venture formed by SLB, Aker Solutions and Subsea7 — a contract to supply subsea production systems for Phase 1 of the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique's offshore Area 4.

The contract scope encompasses subsea trees, manifolds, umbilicals and control systems, as well as engineering, procurement, manufacturing and installation services. The equipment will be deployed in the development of natural gas resources in the deepwater Rovuma Basin.

As part of the agreement, OneSubsea plans to establish a services base in Mozambique to support project operations, contributing to local workforce training, job creation and the development of domestic supply chains.

The award follows a series of significant commitments made by ExxonMobil and its Area 4 partners. In August, the consortium granted approximately $1.1 billion in pre-investment contracts covering long-lead equipment and early construction activities, as the project advances toward a Final Investment Decision (FID).

The contract package includes subsea production systems, large-diameter production valves and pipework for offshore infrastructure, allowing partners to begin manufacturing specialised equipment ahead of the FID's conclusion.

Last month, the Area 4 partners also selected a consortium comprising Saipem and Jan De Nul to carry out engineering, procurement, construction and installation work related to the upstream component of the project.

The initial development envisages 18 subsea wells along with a network of flowlines and manifolds to transport gas produced offshore to onshore processing facilities. Operations will be conducted in water depths of up to approximately 1,700 metres.

At Afungi, the Rovuma LNG plant is designed to include a liquefaction unit comprising 12 LNG modules with a combined capacity of 18.6 million tonnes per annum (MTA). The project also incorporates approximately 50 kilometres of offshore flowlines linking the fields to the processing facilities.
