A fuel spill was observed along the coastline of Angola’s Zaire Province, stretching approximately 40 kilometers and covering the municipalities of Tomboco and Kelo, the Civil Protection and Fire Department announced on Friday (10).
According to a statement cited by Lusa, the Civil Protection and Fire Department stated that the incident, whose origin is still unknown, affected the communes of Manga Grande and Kinzau.
Also according to the fire department, the oil slick was detected on Wednesday on the high seas by a group of fishermen who were preparing to begin fishing, affecting their means of livelihood.
“In light of the incident, the Provincial Civil Protection and Fire Department has already launched awareness campaigns and disseminated preventive measures to the public,” the document states.
