EDM Foresees 320 Thousand New Electricity Connections For 2021

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mozambican Electricity Company (EDM), Marcelino Gildo, said that at least 320 thousand new electric power connections are expected this year all over the country.

The leader said in statements to the press that Nampula was contemplated with 58 thousand new connections, to be made in 353 neighborhoods, and in the capital city of the province our source visited the Namigonha Communal Unit, in the Marrere neighborhood, where there are registered significant advances of the works.

In fact, the satisfaction expressed by local residents testifies that the expansion of the network is already a reality, as the power transmission poles are filling the area.

At this point, EDM has taken on the challenge of electrifying the headquarters of administrative posts throughout the country, and of the 135 posts not yet connected to national power, at least 94 will have power by the end of the year.

In particular, Nampula province has 23 administrative posts without power, of which 20 areas will be lit using the national grid, and the remaining three through the isolated system of the National Energy Fund (FUNAE).

Community leaders of some residential units are satisfied with the expansion of the energy network, believing that the process will boost aspects such as public lighting and improve the quality of electric current.

Citizen António Sansão believes that public lighting is an opportunity to reduce crime, because criminals take advantage of the darkness to rob their victims.
