According to Cláudia Coelho, Angola performs above the African average in terms of its energy system, scoring 65.7 points compared to the continental average of around 57.

Angola holds the 11th position in the African ranking of the Energy Transition Index (ETI) 2025, an assessment that measures countries’ performance and readiness for the energy transition, according to data presented on Wednesday, 22nd, by Cláudia Coelho, Sustainability and Climate Change Specialist at PwC.
The annual index combines criteria such as energy system security, equity, sustainability, as well as factors related to preparation and regulation, investment, innovation, and human capital.
According to Coelho, Angola performs above the African average in terms of its energy system, scoring 65.7 points versus the continental average of 57.
“However, the country faces challenges in readiness for the transition. This difference places Angola 11th in Africa and 92nd globally out of 118 countries evaluated, despite having one of the best energy infrastructures in the region,” Cláudia Coelho explained.
The report accessed by Economia & Mercado shows that Angola ranks behind countries such as Nigeria, Tunisia, Namibia, Mauritius, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, and Ivory Coast, but ahead of other African economies including Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Mozambique, Zambia, Senegal, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
