Brent Opens at $84.42 as Hormuz Uncertainty And Houthi Attacks Weigh on Market

Brent crude, the benchmark for Angolan oil sales, opened trading on Monday at $84.42 per barrel, unchanged from Sunday’s closing price, as geopolitical tensions continued to cloud the outlook for global energy markets.

The North Sea grade is trading under a cloud of uncertainty over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while fresh attacks on Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure claimed by Iran-backed Houthi militants have heightened concern over regional supply flows.

On Sunday, Brent for October delivery traded within a range of $83.94 to $84.97 per barrel, according to data from financial markets platform Investing.com.

Brent crude serves as the principal reference price for international oil transactions and is used as a benchmark by the petroleum industry and OPEC in guiding production and pricing decisions.

Angola’s 2026 General State Budget (OGE) was drawn up on the assumption of an average oil price of $61 per barrel and an estimated daily production of 1.05 million barrels, leaving the government with a significant buffer above its planning assumption at current market prices.
