The company has at least 20 employees distributed across countries such as Angola, Egypt, and the United States of America. Of this total, 70% are women, according to its General Director.
Alfort Petroleum, an American company under Angolan law operating in the Kwanza Basin, Onshore Block 8, is in the final phase of geological and geophysical studies in its area of interest, with drilling of its first well expected to begin soon.
The information was disclosed by Gianni Martins, the company’s General Director, during the Angola Oil & Gas 2025 International Conference, held in Luanda from September 3–4, under the theme “Angola at 50: Oil and Gas as a Factor for Development.”
“We hope to move forward with our agenda and finally carry out the drilling of our first well,” Martins emphasized in an exclusive interview with Economia & Mercado (E&M) magazine.
Beyond this topic, Gianni Martins also addressed the challenges of the energy transition, investment in the oil sector, and the impact of the Cabinda refinery, a unit inaugurated on Monday, September 1.
Regarding the energy transition, the executive explained that it is an inevitable process, while stressing that, for some time, there seemed to be a misconception that such a transition would be faster than reality has shown.
“People thought, perhaps, that renewable energies would, with the snap of a finger, replace fossil fuels. That’s not quite the case. I believe all forms of energy will, in fact, be necessary. We live in the era of artificial intelligence, and one of the realities we are witnessing today is the huge demand for energy. So, I think fossil fuels will continue,” he reinforced.
According to Gianni Martins, the main challenges of the oil sector — which he described as capital intensive — are financial in nature, particularly in a context where the banking sector is undergoing consolidation in order to provide adequate support.
Education and Electrification Dominate Social Project Portfolio
Education and Energy are at the forefront of Alfort Petroleum’s first phase of social responsibility projects. Cultural activities are also part of the portfolio.
On the energy side, the executive explained that Alfort is electrifying communities with solar panels: “This means fossil fuels and renewable energies can go hand in hand.”
Women Represent 70% of Workforce
According to Gianni Martins, Alfort employs at least 20 staff members across Angola, Egypt, and the United States.
In Angola, the company’s General Directorate is based, including Human Resources, Legal, and Compliance divisions. In Egypt (Cairo), where the geology and geophysics specialists are located, the company employs eight staff members. In Houston, USA, Alfort Petroleum employs six staff who liaise with investors and the banking sector.
Of the company’s total workforce, 70% are women and 30% men, the General Director highlighted.
