Shares in Unitel, Angola’s largest telecommunications operator, stabilised near their initial public offering price on the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA) during their first week of trading, even as the company dealt with a cyberattack it described as ‘deliberate and malicious’, detected at 02:20 on 28 July. The incident disrupted voice, data and internet services across the country, affecting both retail and corporate customers.
Unitel made its BODIVA debut on 29 July at the public offering price of 40,040 kwanzas per share. On the first trading day, the stock surged sharply, closing at 50,050 kwanzas. By 31 July, the closing price had pulled back to 40,998 kwanzas. On 3 August, shares edged slightly lower to close at 40,500 kwanzas, and by Tuesday 4 August — at around 15:00 local time — the stock had slipped further to 40,000 kwanzas, representing a decline of 20.08% from its opening-day peak.
