Trading volume on Angola’s Debt and Securities Exchange (Bolsa de Dívidas e Valores de Angola, BODIVA) reached 494.72 billion kwanzas in June, representing a monthly increase of 9.37% and a year-on-year gain of 9.98%, according to a report by the Capital Markets Commission (Comissão do Mercado de Capitais, CMC).
The number of transactions recorded during the period stood at 4,132, a marginal monthly decline of 0.96%, though year-on-year the figure was up 69.69%, the CMC report — seen by ANGOP on Tuesday — showed.
The growth in traded volume was driven primarily by the performance of the Repo Operations Market (Mercado de Operações de Reporte, MOR), which expanded 84.00% compared with the previous month, fuelled by increased interbank treasury management activity.
Non-Adjustable Treasury Bonds (Obrigações do Tesouro Não Reajustáveis, OT-NR) accounted for the largest share of transactions in the regulated market, representing 83.74% of total volume, equivalent to 414.30 billion kwanzas.
Foreign-Currency Treasury Bonds (Obrigações do Tesouro em Moeda Externa, OT-ME) came in second, with a 15.22% share corresponding to 72.32 billion kwanzas.
Among BODIVA’s trading agents, ÁUREA was the most active on the buy side in June, accounting for 20.32% of purchases, while HCPS led on the sell side with a 27.27% share.
The CMC noted that 76.84% of financial instrument transactions were carried out by institutional investors, with the remaining 23.16% executed by non-institutional investors.
Compared with the previous month, the report recorded a decline in the participation of non-institutional investors.
The banking sector led trading activity during the period, both on the buy and sell sides, with shares of 46.03% and 76.42%, respectively.
On the buy side, Investment Funds were also a notable presence, accounting for 22.76% of purchases, while on the sell side the Public Debt Management Unit (Unidade de Gestão de Dívida Pública, UGD) represented a 12.49% share.
A total of 1,851 investors participated in trading during the period, a 20.66% increase compared with the number of participants in the previous month. Of these, 87.15% were individual investors and 12.85% were companies or institutions.
Over-the-counter transactions accounted for 87.80% of all BODIVA market activity in June, with the remaining 12.20% conducted on the exchange floor.
Within the over-the-counter segment, 50.64% of purchases were made by the banking sector and 49.36% by other sectors.
In the exchange floor segment, the banking sector represented 12.84% of transactions, with the remaining 87.16% attributable to other sectors.
Market capitalisation stood at approximately 4,091.37 billion kwanzas, reflecting a 3.96% decline compared with the previous month.
The CMC attributed this contraction primarily to a depreciation in the share prices of four of the five listed companies, with BODIVA itself being the sole exception.
