Toyota Beats Volkswagen and Becomes Number 1 in Sales

The car market has suffered and continues to suffer greatly from the VOCID-19 pandemic. In addition to the fall in sales, there has also been a slowdown in the production of new vehicles in the last year.

If up to now Volkswagen was the world’s biggest selling group, with the pandemic everything has changed!

Toyota was the manufacturer that sold the most vehicles in 2020! For the first time in five years, the Japanese brand has won first place among the brands that sell the most vehicles. Toyota includes several brands, such as the subsidiaries Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors.

According to the information, Toyota’s sales fell by 11.3% and 9.53 million vehicles were sold. The German Volkswagen group sold 9.31 million units.

According to a study by the IHS Markit Institute, demand for cars fell by 14% in 2020 compared with 2019. This was due to the forced shutdown of production in plants and the closure of showrooms. Consumer confidence also declined. Then there is the issue of markets. Toyota will have benefited from the fact that Japan, and Asia in general, have been less affected by the pandemic. In the United States, where the Japanese manufacturer also has a strong implementation, car sales fell by 15%.

For Volkswagen, with strong business in Europe, the drop was around 24%. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association recently revealed that less than 10 million cars were sold in the EU in 2020.

But it is not all bad news for Volkswagen. Analysts predict that the group will regain first place by 2021. However, it will even be Toyota that will then lead the car market, due to the supply of trams.
