The World Bank’s Vice President for Digital Development, Sangu Kim, praised Angola’s progress in public administration digitalization last Thursday in Washington, emphasizing the importance of high-level leadership to ensure the effectiveness of digital initiatives. Sangu Kim spoke during a meeting with the Minister of State and Chief of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, on the sidelines of the 2nd edition of the World Bank Digital Summit held in the U.S. capital.
Kim also highlighted the interoperability of systems, the Unique Digital Identity, and the unification of electronic payments as key elements for improving public service efficiency.
At the regional level, he acknowledged Angola’s pioneering role in implementing the Digital Acceleration Project (PADA), positioning the country as a digital hub and driver of regional integration, particularly through initiatives related to the Lobito Corridor.
The World Bank official reaffirmed the institution’s continued support for the country’s digital development, aiming to explore new partnership opportunities and strengthen regional integration.
The central theme of the meeting between Adão de Almeida and Sangu Kim was the need to enhance cooperation between Angola and the World Bank for the country’s digital development.
The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation for Angola’s digital development, particularly in modernizing public services, connectivity, and digital inclusion. The Minister of State reaffirmed the Angolan government’s commitment to digital transformation, highlighting the Digital Transition Agenda as a central axis of State reform.
The Chief of the Civil House of the President was accompanied by the Ministers of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, and of Justice and Human Rights, Marcy Lopes, as well as the Director-General of the Administrative Modernization Institute (IMA), Meick Afonso.
The World Bank delegation included Isabel Neto, Practice Manager for Digital Development in Southern and Eastern Africa, and digital development experts.
