Angola’s largest mobile operator, Unitel, announced that its telecommunications services have been fully restored following a cyberattack that disrupted part of its technology infrastructure over recent days.
In an official statement, the operator said that containment mechanisms and business-continuity plans were activated immediately after the incident was identified, enabling a progressive restoration of services with the continuous involvement of the company’s technical teams and its technology partners.
Voice calls, text messaging, mobile data and internet services have returned to normal, the company said, though it acknowledged that some customers may still experience isolated disruptions or intermittent unavailability on certain services.
In such cases, Unitel is urging affected customers to contact its customer support service — either through the call centre or at its retail stores — so that each reported issue can be assessed and resolved promptly.
The company reiterated its commitment to network stability and service continuity, stating that it continues to work closely with competent authorities and cybersecurity specialists to establish the full circumstances of the attack, strengthen its protection mechanisms and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The cyberattack, which occurred at the end of July, caused widespread outages across Unitel’s voice, mobile data, internet and messaging services, affecting thousands of customers nationwide. Since then, the operator has been gradually rebuilding its technology infrastructure through containment measures and collaboration with cybersecurity experts and relevant authorities. With the progressive restoration of services now complete, the company says the situation is being normalised, with ongoing technical monitoring in place to ensure network stability and minimise any remaining disruptions.
