Unitel Restores Services After Cyberattack as Shares Admitted to Stock Exchange

Angola’s largest mobile operator, Unitel, began gradually restoring voice, data and internet services on Wednesday, 29 January, roughly 24 hours after a cyberattack disrupted connectivity for more than 20 million customers — even as the company completed its stock exchange listing on the same day.

The outage, which struck on Tuesday, 28 January, knocked out Unitel’s voice, data and internet services across its network. The operator began resuming operations on a phased basis the following day, with services progressively returning to customers affected by the breach.

Separately, the 7.5 million ordinary shares recently sold through a Public Share Offering (OPV) were officially admitted on Wednesday to the Mercado de Bolsa de Acções (MBA), Angola’s stock exchange, marking a significant milestone in the company’s public market debut despite the timing of the cyberattack.
