Xiaomi recently introduced the “iron of the future” to the market, a device that promises professional-grade fabric care through the use of high-pressure steam. The new product, named Mijia Ironing Machine 2, is part of the brand’s smart home ecosystem and stands out for its minimalist design and advanced features.
The key differentiator isn’t just the minimalist “handbag” look, which makes it easy to transport and store, but what’s “under the hood.” Xiaomi has equipped the device with a 500 kPa electromagnetic pump.
This technical upgrade allows the steam to penetrate deep into the fibers of the clothes rather than just acting on the surface, which, according to the brand, helps eliminate even the most stubborn wrinkles.
The promise is efficiency, with a rapid heating system that gets the device ready for use in just 65 seconds. Additionally, it delivers a constant steam output of 120 g/min, ensuring that heavy fabrics like wool and linen are smoothed out quickly.
Another plus is the dual heating system, present in both the base and the iron head, which maintains a stable temperature and prevents that annoying problem of the iron “spitting” water and wetting the garment you just washed.
Unlike conventional models, the Mijia 2 features an intuitive color display that shows the temperature and selected mode in real time. It offers six ironing modes, specifically calibrated for common fabrics such as pure cotton, silk, synthetic fibers, linen, blends, and wool.
The water tank also doesn’t disappoint, capable of ironing up to 15 garments on a single fill.
For now, the new product is exclusive to the Chinese market and is available via the Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding platform with a launch price of 509 CNY.
