According to the Ouut portal, Thuraya-4 is designed to offer next-generation satellite services to sectors such as mining, energy, maritime, public administration, and humanitarian missions that depend on uninterrupted communications. As satellite communication has become essential for safety and operational continuity in these areas, many operate in isolated or unstable environments with unreliable or non-existent physical networks.

This new chapter is aligned with the growing need for reliable connectivity in South Africa, resulting from challenges in infrastructure construction and the digital transformation process. For areas not served by traditional networks, Thuraya-4 promotes economic stability and strengthens communications resilience by establishing nationwide coverage.

Space42 Commercial Director Sulaiman Al Ali said during the event that “the expansion into South Africa reflects the commitment to enabling secure and reliable communications in markets where connectivity is essential for growth and resilience.”

According to analysts, the launch puts the country at the center of the adoption of advanced satellite technologies, bridging connectivity gaps in both the public and private sectors. The initiative also demonstrates Space42’s goal of improving efficiency and security by integrating Artificial Intelligence-based solutions into satellite communications.

The launch brought together government leaders, industry executives, technology partners, and members of the media to highlight advances in satellite connectivity and digital infrastructure in the region. The company also presented future initiatives, notably the Map Africa project, which aims to support digital transformation efforts across the continent through data-driven technologies and advanced connectivity solutions.
