Samsung has launched Hearapy, a new app that promises to reduce motion sickness during travel using a specific sound played through headphones. The feature is already available on the Google Play Store and, although the promotion highlights the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, it also works with other headphones.
According to the company, motion sickness affects 3 out of 10 travelers. To address this, Hearapy uses a 100 Hz sine wave, which stimulates the vestibular system responsible for balance in the inner ear. The technology is based on a study from Nagoya University in Japan, which indicates temporary improvement when listening to this tone at levels between 75 and 85 dB.
The goal of the feature is to offer quick relief without the need for “any pills or side effects.” Samsung also claims that just 60 seconds of exposure to the audio can produce an effect that lasts up to two hours, making it particularly useful for people who experience dizziness and nausea during short to medium trips.
In addition, the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro deliver the 100 Hz sound with greater clarity and power, but the app is not exclusive to the device and can be used with any headphones. However, the company does not clearly state whether the results are the same across all models or if the best experience depends on using its own earbuds.
Hearapy has been launched globally and is available on the Google Play Store.
