Microsoft announced this week that it plans to shut down Internet Explorer in June of next year. The company will take the IE 11 application offline on the 15th of that month, but for several years it has been asking companies that use the software to stop using it.
The app will no longer be operational in almost all versions of Windows 10, but the technology company explains that the decision does not affect long-term services that serve professional devices that are used for long periods of time, such as air traffic control systems or MRI machines.
Internet Explorer has been part of Windows for more than 25 years, but since the introduction of Edge in 2015, it has fallen out of favor. Technical support ended in 2016 and the remaining Microsoft applications will stop supporting IE 11 on August 17.
