Angola Telecom and Telecom Namibia have signed a cooperation agreement worth USD 118 million for the construction and interconnection of a submarine cable linking the two countries in the telecommunications sector.
The agreement was signed by Angola Telecom Chairman Adilson Miguel dos Santos and Telecom Namibia Chief Executive Officer Stanley Shanapinda during ANGOTIC 2026.
Speaking to the press, Adilson dos Santos highlighted that the project includes the construction of a submarine cable with a landing station in Namibia, which will strengthen regional connectivity and provide access to other international telecommunications systems.
The chairman added that the project is currently undergoing legal structuring to secure the necessary financing. According to the executive, the partnership aims to reinforce Angola’s position as a regional telecommunications hub, benefiting from direct connections to the Americas and enhanced interconnection capacity with networks in West and East Africa, as well as Europe.
The agreement has a duration of 12 years, with the first five years dedicated to infrastructure maintenance. “However, the cable’s estimated operational lifespan is approximately 25 years,” he added.
