The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, recently reaffirmed in Lisbon (Portugal) the Angolan government’s commitment to digital literacy—a programme that has been key to Angola’s growing prominence in the world of new technologies.
In an interview with Portuguese television channel TVI/CNN, the minister stated that Angola is implementing some of the world’s best practices, highlighting initiatives such as the Space Programme, the national broadband fibre optic network, the country’s connection to international submarine cables, and digital projects like Angola Digital, Angola Online, and Conecta Angola, along with the expansion of mobile coverage—achievements he classified as national successes.
According to Oliveira, these programmes, led by his ministry, lay the foundation for Angola’s digital transformation, economic digitalisation, improved public services, and the reduction of information exclusion, enabling more Angolans to access the internet and digital services.
ANGOTIC 2025
The minister also emphasised the importance of ANGOTIC 2025, taking place in Luanda from June 12 to 14 this year, under the theme “Communicate, Modernise and Develop Angola.”
“This is an opportunity for Angola to showcase to the world what has been achieved in the technology sector in service of citizens and the national economy. The success of previous editions gives us the confidence to say that this event is becoming one of the most important gatherings for digital transformation—not only in Angola, but across the African continent,” he stated.
The event, part of the celebrations of Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence, will feature high-level discussions on innovative technological solutions, business promotion, and the establishment of partnerships and investments to boost the development of a smart society.
According to the minister, the themes chosen will allow for a broad approach reflecting current trends in the tech sector.
The theme of Connectivity will explore how modern telecom advancements are revolutionising connectivity and reshaping customer engagement.
Participants will get a first-hand look at next-generation services and emerging technologies.
