More than seven out of ten CEOs (74%) in Angola state that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a priority investment in their organisations, according to Bruno Oliveira, Associate Partner for Technology Consulting at KPMG Angola.
Speaking this Wednesday, the 19th, during the 8th E&M Conference on Digital Transformation, the specialist explained that at the same time there is an increase in the number of global executives (79%) and Angolan executives (93%) who expect a return on investment within one to five years. This represents a significant shift compared to the previous year, when most leaders did not anticipate returns before three to five years.
He noted that investment levels in Angola vary significantly: 33% of companies spend less than 10% of their annual budget on AI; 25% invest between 10% and 20%; 8% allocate between 20% and 30%; and another 33% dedicate between 30% and 40% of their resources to the technology.
Furthermore, he explained that 87% of leaders express concern about ethical issues associated with AI adoption, a figure higher than the 59% recorded globally. The same percentage (87%) identifies data preparation as one of the main risks, compared to 52% internationally.
For 67% of CEOs in Angola, the pace of regulation could also pose a barrier to success, compared to 50% observed globally, according to the document presented by the specialist.
He added that despite these concerns, the impacts are already becoming visible, emphasising that the vast majority of business leaders report clear improvements in operations: “97% report productivity gains, 94% identify increases in profitability, and 91% observe improvements in the quality of work produced by employees.”
