Police Seize $24,800 at Luanda’s New International Airport in Currency Smuggling Case

Angola’s Customs Fiscal Police seized US$24,800 at the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Icolo e Bengo province, following a joint operation conducted with inspectors from the Third Tax Region of the General Tax Administration (AGT).

Authorities said the cash was in the possession of a 21-year-old Angolan national, who was detained on suspicion of committing the offence of fraudulent transport or transfer of foreign currency abroad.

The seizure and arrest took place on 28 July 2026, as part of a customs inspection operation carried out jointly by the Customs Fiscal Police and the AGT.

According to information released by the authorities, the money was found concealed inside a bag during a baggage screening at the airport’s declaration booths.

At the time of the inspection, the suspect was preparing to board Emirates flight EK-794, bound for Dubai.

Following the seizure, the US$24,800 was deposited in the AGT’s secure vault, while the detained individual was referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for subsequent legal proceedings.
