The Luanda Fishing Port will soon be home to a fish market, a strategic infrastructure designed to strengthen the seafood value chain and improve marketing conditions in the country’s capital.
The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen dos Santos, who presided last Friday over laid the cornerstone for the construction and equipping of the Luanda Fishing Port Fish Market, noted that the future fish market will ensure better conditions for the reception, preservation, processing, and marketing of fish, contributing to the enhancement of domestic production, consumer protection, and greater organization of fishing activities.
According to Minister Carmen dos Santos, once construction is complete, the facility will process 100 tons of fish daily.
The project is part of the government’s strategy to modernize the sector and combat informality in the national economy.
With the implementation of this infrastructure, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of fisheries, the strengthening of food security, and the revitalization of the blue economy. The new fish market is expected to directly benefit operators in the sector and strengthen the role of fisheries as one of the pillars of national economic diversification.
