Global Logistics Giant Announces USD 100 Million Investment in Angola

Dubai Ports World (DP World), a multinational logistics company headquartered in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), plans to invest USD 100 million over the next three years to expand its logistics terminal and develop digital platforms in Angola.

The announcement was made this Saturday in Luanda by Mohammed Akoojee, DP World’s CEO for Sub-Saharan Africa, following a meeting with Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, on the sidelines of the “Angola Hub Transport and Logistics Summit”, taking place from October 17 to 19 in the Angolan capital.

During the meeting, Akoojee explained that this investment aims primarily to create a unified and consistent logistics platform to connect Angola with neighboring countries in the region and to reduce transportation costs.

He also expressed the multinational’s interest in investing in the agricultural sector, given Angola’s potential in this area, with plans to establish a robust transportation network that minimizes post-harvest losses and ensures rapid delivery of products to end consumers.

Despite these opportunities, Akoojee noted that the country still needs to strengthen its logistics infrastructure to provide greater support to the wider continental region.

The executive underlined Angola’s strategic role in driving Africa’s economic growth, emphasizing that neighboring countries such as Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could benefit from Angola’s position to enhance regional connectivity and trade.

Organized by the Ministry of Transport, the Angola Hub Transport and Logistics Summit is part of the celebrations marking 50 years of Angola’s Independence, to be commemorated on November 11 this year.

The event’s main objective is to attract investment and establish Angola as an air, maritime, port, and rail hub, capable of connecting Africa to the rest of the world, reinforcing national sovereignty, boosting economic growth, and positioning the country as a continental benchmark in the transport and logistics sector.

The summit, which concludes on Sunday (October 19), brings together 100 national and international companies, 24 startups, as well as experts and business leaders.

On Saturday, the second day of the event, the agenda included discussions on topics such as:

  • “360º Financing and Insurance for Transport and Logistics Projects”
  • “Sustainable Transport in Renewable Energy: Solutions for Emission Reduction”
  • “Sustainable Innovation and Smart Mobility: Green Logistics Solutions in the Era of Drones”

The final day will feature a corporate workshop, special thematic sessions, and roundtable discussions, culminating in a closing gala that will recognize and award participants who stood out throughout the summit.
