Chinese company SUNHO formally expressed interest on Wednesday in establishing a metallurgical industrial park in the municipality of Soyo, Zaire province, in a move that Angolan officials described as having significant economic and strategic reach for the region.
The proposal was tabled during a high-level meeting in Luanda between a multisectoral delegation from the Zaire Provincial Government, led by Governor Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, and the board of Angola’s Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), alongside a group of Chinese investors.
The project is envisaged as a catalyst for the province’s industrialisation, promoting the local processing of mineral resources, strengthening domestic production value chains, broadening the private-sector base and creating a significant number of jobs.
The Zaire provincial delegation travelled to Luanda specifically to attract private investment into structural projects for the province and to showcase its economic potential. During the meeting, authorities presented a diversified portfolio of investment opportunities spanning agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, tourism, energy, infrastructure, logistics and mining. The provincial government reiterated its commitment to forging solid and mutually beneficial partnerships with both domestic and foreign investors.
