Since 2022, the National Bank of Angola (BNA) has provided a total of 10 billion kwanzas to support production and economic diversification in Huambo Province by financing 125 projects in the productive sector and 30 agricultural and livestock cooperatives.
This information was confirmed by the director of the Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development, Sérgio Likutu.
He urged beneficiaries to act more responsibly in repaying the loans granted, in order to ensure the sustainability of the financing programs.
The funds made available by commercial banks as part of the government’s economic relief measures fall under BNA Notice No. 10/2022 and the Credit Support Project (PAC). These instruments were created to boost business activity, encourage domestic production, and promote the diversification of the national economy. According to Sérgio Likutu, many of the business owners who benefited have failed to honor their commitments to pay their debts in installments, a situation that undermines the sustainability of the initiative.
