Angola's Foreign Minister Téte António raised the Angolan government's concern over funds and assets belonging to the country that remain frozen in Switzerland, during a meeting in Luanda on Friday with the Swiss Embassy's chargé d'affaires, Lukas Schifferle.
According to a government statement, António used the audience to press for a resolution to the matter, including the repatriation of the assets to the Angolan state under terms to be agreed upon by both parties.
The minister reiterated that Angola has been pursuing the issue through diplomatic channels and the relevant institutional mechanisms, describing it as a matter of particular importance to the country.
António also took the opportunity to underscore the traditionally close and friendly nature of relations between Angola and Switzerland, which he said are grounded in cooperation, mutual respect, and an understanding built across various fields over many years.
In that context, he reaffirmed the Angolan government's readiness to continue working with Swiss authorities through the appropriate diplomatic channels to find a mutually acceptable resolution to the frozen-assets question.
Political, diplomatic and cooperation ties between Angola and the Swiss Confederation date back to the early years of Angolan independence.
No further details were disclosed regarding the origin, nature or total value of the assets and funds held in Switzerland.
