The National Maritime Agency (AMN) will hold a National Conference on Preparation for the International Maritime Organization (IMSAS) Audit from July 7 to 8 in Luanda, aiming to secure Angola’s recognition on the international maritime stage. The conference, coordinated by the Ministry of Transport, will bring together government entities, international partners, legal experts, industry representatives, and specialists from the maritime and port sectors.
The meeting is part of the preparations for the International Maritime Organization Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS) audit, scheduled for November this year. It will also serve as a platform to share the progress Angola has made, discuss legal and operational challenges, and consolidate strategies to ensure full compliance with the IMO’s mandatory instruments.
According to a statement from the National Maritime Agency, the two-day event will cover topics such as the “National and regional maritime legal framework”, “Port security (ISPS)”, “Environmental protection”, “Seafarer training (STCW)”, and the “Promotion of an effective maritime inspection culture”, under the Port State Control (PSC) framework.
The conference will be attended by representatives from Lloyd’s Register, the Abuja MoU, universities, technical institutes, defense and security bodies, and environmental authorities.
The opening session will feature remarks from Anisabel Veríssimo e Costa, Chairperson of the AMN Board of Directors, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Transport.
This meeting will reinforce Angola’s commitment to effective maritime governance, navigational safety, marine environmental protection, and compliance with international obligations as an IMO member state.
