BCI Bank and UNIDO Launch One Million Dollar Credit Line for Renewable Energies

BCI bank Moçambique, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Energy Fund (FUNAE) launched this Monday in Maputo, a credit line for the agricultural sector with renewable energy solutions.

Designated “BCI Super Credit Line”, it is estimated at US$1 million, and comes as a form of a guarantee fund required by the Bank to agricultural sector operators for risk mitigation.

For the director of BCI, Miguel Alves, this line “translates into a valuable and opportune instrument and a correct bet of a strategy to which BCI is unconditionally aligned, and to highlight the attractive conditions that this fund offers for the acquisition of renewable energy equipment for productive use in the agribusiness sector in Mozambique, whether in agriculture or in agro-processing.

For the UNIDO representative in Mozambique, Jaime Comiche, the relevance of this financial mechanism, “has become even more urgent and reinforced to supplement the resilience and adaptability of local communities and SMEs in the face of economic adversity, to protect livelihoods, food security and jobs”.

In his turn, the President of the Board of Directors of FUNAE, António Saíde, assured the urgent need to transform the means of social inclusion into a means of economic inclusion through the use of sustainable solutions.

Representing the government, the National Energy Director, Pascoal Bacela, said at the same meeting that the act now witnessed “represents a great contribution in the construction of the sustainability base for the service of energy supply to all consumers at a national scale”, stressing that “the promotion of the productive use of energy constitutes an imperative in the electrification process”.
