Angola’s government has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting domestic production — with agribusiness as a centrepiece — as part of a broader strategy to diversify the economy and reduce its structural dependence on the oil sector.
The pledge was made on Wednesday in Lubango, capital of Huíla province, by Minister of State for Economic Coordination José de Lima Massano, who was on a two-day working visit to the southern province.
Speaking to reporters, Massano said the national economy has been showing clear signs of growth since the start of the year, and called for stronger incentive policies for the productive sector, with particular emphasis on attracting private investment.
The minister noted that Angola is emerging from roughly six years of economic contraction and has entered a recovery phase driven primarily by the performance of the non-oil economy.
“We had a relatively long period of economic contraction — almost six years. Now we are witnessing qualified growth, with virtually every sector of the economy recording positive performance. In particular, the non-oil sector grew by more than six per cent in the first quarter of this year. Our expectation is that, in the second quarter of 2026, that pace will be maintained between five and six per cent,” Massano said.
The minister also highlighted the contribution of privately owned companies to the economy’s positive results, reiterating the government’s commitment to strengthening domestic production capacity.
“We are using these opportunities to reaffirm our commitment to domestic production and to all those who, on a daily basis, face challenges to produce and invest. The Government of Angola will continue to provide all the support within its reach to preserve the growth dynamic the economy is recording,” he said.
