The Republic of Angola and the Federal Republic of Germany have strengthened their bilateral cooperation ties with the signing of three new legal instruments, as part of the official visit to Angola by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço.
During the same ceremony, both parties signed a contract between Lufthansa Consulting GmbH and the Angolan Ministry of Transport for the restructuring of the national airline, TAAG.
At the event, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Stefan Tavares Bollow and Carl Heinrich Bruhn, directors of Gauff GmbH & Co. Engineering KG and CHB Investment Holding GmbH, respectively, for the implementation of an agro-industrial development hub in Angola.
On the occasion, Transport Minister Ricardo de Abreu highlighted the importance of Angola establishing this partnership with Lufthansa as part of the process to modernize and restructure TAAG in various areas, ensuring that the national airline becomes a leading carrier on the African continent.
Ricardo de Abreu explained that the areas of collaboration are diverse and aim to improve corporate governance, commercial operations, maintenance, engineering, training, and flight operations, as well as to support the definition of strategic routes to realize Angola’s vision of creating an aerial hub, especially with the upcoming opening of the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport.
The minister also noted that the agreement will help increase air traffic, stimulate investment projects, and attract tourists from Northern Europe to Angola.
Meanwhile, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Isaac dos Anjos stated that the agreement for the Agro-Industrial Hub includes two phases. The first involves identifying and negotiating potential sites suitable for establishing a project of this scale.
The second phase will focus on assessing the necessary infrastructure requirements and determining the financial resources needed for implementation. Dos Anjos explained that only after these steps will the construction phase begin, followed by the establishment of the regulations governing land use and large-scale agricultural production for export.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and Germany date back to 1979 and were strengthened in 2011 with the signing of a joint declaration of intent to promote bilateral dialogue.
