The President of the Republic stated that it is “urgent to ensure” the completion of construction works on the diplomatic mission in order to guarantee efficient service delivery and serve the public interest.
The completion of the premises of the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Angola in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia will cost US$19.3 million, according to a presidential order recently signed by the Head of State and reviewed by Economia & Mercado magazine.
In Presidential Order No. 236/26 of 18 June, João Lourenço also authorised an additional allocation of US$150 million for the procurement of supervision and inspection services related to the public works project.
The President noted that the chancery of Angola’s Diplomatic Mission in Ethiopia — the host country of the headquarters of the African Union (AU) — is essential for representing Angola’s interests and protecting the rights of Angolan citizens in the host state.
For this reason, the Angolan Head of State stressed that it is “urgent to ensure” the completion of the construction works in order to guarantee “efficiency in service delivery and, consequently, the fulfilment of the public interest.”
João Lourenço further highlighted the need to create the conditions necessary for the effective operation of the facility, as well as to provide “adequate accommodation” for personnel assigned to Angola’s diplomatic representation abroad and for Angolan and foreign citizens who rely on its services.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has been delegated authority, with the option of further delegation, to carry out all decision-making and approval procedures, as well as to verify the validity and legality of all acts undertaken within the simplified procurement process, including the negotiation, conclusion and signing of the relevant contracts.
