Angola stood out at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund (ADF), which concluded on Friday, May 29, in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.
The announcement of Angola’s accession to the group of contributing countries to the replenishment of the African Development Fund (ADF-17) was welcomed with applause by participants, who gathered under a message of optimism and commitment to the continent’s economic and social transformation.

The closing ceremony was attended by heads of state and government, ministers, central bank governors, and representatives of international financial institutions. It was during this forum that AfDB Group President Sidi Ould Tah formally announced that Angola had joined the collective effort to replenish ADF-17, bringing to 25 the number of African states financially supporting this concessional lending mechanism aimed at lower-income countries.
Angola’s recognition was presented as a reflection of the country’s commitment to strengthening African financial institutions and promoting sustainable development across the continent. AfDB officials described Angola’s accession as a sign of growing engagement by African states in building sustainable solutions for their own development, reinforcing the principles of shared responsibility and African ownership of the continent’s financial architecture.
Angola’s participation in the meetings also reinforced the country’s commitment to mobilising resources for development, promoting investment, and consolidating strategic partnerships capable of accelerating inclusive and sustainable economic growth, both in Angola and across Africa as a whole.
