Between 800 and 1000 MW. This is the capacity of the offshore wind mega-park that Iberdrola and Total want to conquer. The two companies have formed an alliance to bid for the Thor development, located off Denmark and considered one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms.
Europa Press reports that Spain’s Iberdrola and France’s Total have formed a joint venture which has since been selected by the Danish Energy Agency to participate in the auction of the Thor wind farm. The result of the competition is not expected to be known until the end of this year.
“The continued development of offshore wind energy is vital to achieving a decarbonised World and Thor will be a project of great relevance to Denmark’s energy transition,” said Jonathan Cole, Iberdrola’s global director for offshore wind energy. Cited by the same news agency, he stresses that the company already has similar projects in the North Sea and the Baltic, so it has the necessary experience to manage the Thor park.
On the Total side, the director of the oil company in Denmark says the company’s ambition is to be carbon neutral by 2050 and play an important role in Europe’s energy transition. “Our participation in Thor’s bid is in line with this ambition,” says Martin Rune Pedersen.
