Galp Foundation Builds School Infrastructure in Nampula

Students and teachers of the Secondary School of the Community of Natôa, district of Rapale, in Nampula Province, returned to classes with three new classrooms equipped with robust furniture and a library built from scratch and equipped.

The construction of the infrastructures takes place under the “Educate for the Future” initiative implemented by Fundação Galp in partnership with Helpo since 2019 and has already directly benefited about 3000 students in seven schools in Nampula province.

Over the three years of the Project, the Natôa school receives 50 collections of textbooks for Secondary Education every year and a support in the making and distribution of school snacks (Ephawila Project), twice a week.

It is expected that the new equipment, fully funded by the Galp Foundation, will allow about 1700 children to have access to quality education and in total safety, by ensuring the social distance recommended in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The three classrooms built from scratch will serve students from 1st to 10th grade, while the library, already equipped, will allow the student population of the Natôa community to have a privileged space to do research, study, and prepare homework. And to continue their studies beyond Primary School in the same school. A possibility that pleases not only the students, but also the teachers and the entire Natôa Community.

The Galp Foundation also awards merit scholarships to the best students (boys and girls in the same proportion) of Natôa, which benefited 10 students in 2019, 20 last year and, for this year, 30 more will be awarded

“Students, to do secondary school, had to go to Namaita, others to the city (of Nampula), and other students were not even able to afford to leave Natôa, because they had no family in Nampula. The introduction of the new library, plus the new classrooms that have been built, greatly boost the growth of the area and allow for secondary education”, says Horácio Fernando Mulela, Mathematics teacher at that educational institution.

The Galp Foundation also awards merit scholarships to the best students (boys and girls in the same proportion) at Natôa, which benefited 10 students in 2019, 20 last year and, for this year, 30 more will be awarded.
