National Beach and River Cleanup Campaign Launched

A national campaign to clean up beaches and rivers, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of environmental preservation, was launched on Saturday at Luanda’s Nova Marginal by the Ministry of Environment (MINAMB).

With over 200 participants, the campaign, under the slogan “Clean Beaches and Rivers: Let’s Protect Our Country,” seeks to restore dignity to the sandy stretches of beaches like Savana, São Tomé, Ilha do Mussulo, as well as rivers in Luanda and other areas nationwide through regular cleanup efforts.

The initiative, which included participation from members of the National Air Force (FAN), Angolan Navy (MGA), volunteers, and sanitation workers, is part of the celebrations for Environment Month. The highlight of these celebrations will be the International Conference on Biodiversity and Conservation Areas, scheduled for January 31 in Luanda.

Minister of Environment Ana Paula de Carvalho Pereira stated that beyond being a cleanup activity, the campaign serves as a practical lesson in citizenship and environmental preservation. She emphasized that the initiative will continue in the coming days in the provinces of Icolo e Bengo and Bengo.

The minister noted that the joint effort demonstrates that with dedication, it is possible to transform public spaces into more pleasant and welcoming areas, particularly during the beach season when beaches become a preferred destination for many families.
