Forestry Institute Fights Desertification in Namibe

The Forestry Development Institute (IDF) launched 93,000 seed balls on Thursday in the Cainde-Virei Commune, Namibe Province, to combat desertification.

According to the Namibe Government’s Facebook page, seeds from native species such as Colophospermum mopane (mutiaty), Brachystegia spiciformis (mupanda), Faidherbia albida, Acacia nilotica, and Jubernadia were planted.

This initiative also aims to combat drought in the region and ensure fodder for livestock to mitigate the phenomenon of transhumance.

The process was supported by the FRESAN program and involved local communities in the recovery of areas degraded by drought, according to the same source.
