Angola will hold its International Mining Conference (AIMC) in Luanda on 26 and 27 November, bringing together more than 800 participants to chart the future of the country's mining sector, organisers announced on Thursday.
Operating under the theme 'Minerals That Transform, Partnerships That Drive Growth', the event will for the first time merge the International Mining Conference and the International Diamond Conference into a single forum. Attendees will include government officials, international investors, mining companies and financial institutions.
Beyond addressing the sector's structural challenges, the conference is designed as a platform for forging partnerships and mobilising investment across the mining value chain, with particular emphasis on diamonds, copper, gold, niobium, rare earths and lithium.
The launch ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Corrêa Victor.
Speaking at the event, Corrêa Victor reiterated the government's commitment to attracting investment into the sector's multiple value chains, highlighting the need to respond to the growing challenge posed by synthetic diamonds to Angola's natural gem industry.
That strategy, he added, is aimed at positioning Angola as a continental and global centre of mining excellence.
Over the two days of the AIMC, delegates will debate Angola's geological potential, value-chain financing, mining technology, industrialisation strategies and related policy issues.
